November 26, 2024 – Maiden E celebrated their official ribbon cutting!

We are excited to share the highlights from the recent festivities that brought together our community in support of the Maiden Elementary School project. The event was a resounding success, and we want you to be part of this incredible journey!

The turnout was remarkable, with many community members coming together to celebrate this significant milestone. It was inspiring to see so many faces united in support of our children’s education and the future of Maiden Elementary.

Attendees were treated to insightful speeches from well-respected officials of Catawba County Schools, who shared their vision for educational excellence and community involvement. The words of our dedicated Maiden Elementary Principal resonated deeply, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between schools and families.

We were also honored to have a representative from the architectural firm that spearheaded this project. Their expertise and passion for creating an enriching learning environment shone through as they discussed the innovative designs that will shape our school’s future.

This event was more than just a celebration; it showcased the commitment we all share towards enhancing educational opportunities for our children. The collaboration among educators, parents, and local leaders is vital in building a brighter future for our students.

Maiden Christmas Cops

Maiden Police Department kicks off their 9th annual “Christmas Cops” Toy Drive

Throughout the years this program has seen continued growth allowing our Maiden cops to help more and more families by lessening the burden and stress that comes with providing presents for their children. This has all been possible by the tremendous outpouring of support from the Maiden community.

If you would like to help this year, MPD will be accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys.

Donation buckets are conveniently located at the Maiden Police Department, Maiden Fire Department, Maiden Town Hall, Family Dollar, and Dollar General (Both Locations).

Maiden Police Department’s “Christmas Cops” Toy Drive will be running now through December 15th, 2024.

Representatives from the Lincolnton branch of American Woodmark Corporation (situated just outside our town) visited Maiden yesterday to present a check to the value of $3,000 to 501c3 ‘Malorie’s Place.’

Chas Andrews, Maintenance Team Lead, Latorya Odum, Lead, Quality and Maria Resendix, Lead in Rework presented the check to Malorie’s Place President, Leslie Hulbert, and shared with us how they help and support the community at large by donating to charities and local groups in our area.

American Woodmark has been donating to the local community for over 5 years, and has recently supported other good causes such as King’s Daughters in Stanley, West Lincoln Middle School and Crowders Camps, to name just a few. The company is based out of Winchester, Virginia and you can find their cabinets in local DIY stores such as Lowes and Home Depot.

Leslie made a statement thanking the company. “We are incredibly grateful to the American Woodmark Foundation for their generous donation to Malorie’s Place. Their support will have a profound impact on our mission to empower and uplift our community. Together, we’re making strides to help families affected by addiction, depression, grief, and trauma.

Candlelit vigil for the victims of recent Maiden triple homicide

Local Maiden residents and mourners met at ‘Malorie’s Place’ this evening for a candlelight vigil in honor of the three victims of yesterday’s shooting.

The victims have now been identified as Jenna Lynn Cox, 28, Cyndi Marie Cox, 61 and Charles Kevin Cox, 61. All three are Maiden residents. The alleged suspect, Issac Nathaniel Christenbury of Iron Station has been charged and is being held without bond at Catawba County Detention Facility in Newton. Christenbury, who is known to have previously dated Jenna Cox, had his first appearance in Catawba County District Court today and has been assigned an attorney.

Surrounded by community members and mourners, acting Police Chief Tyler Whisenant spoke on behalf of the Maiden Police Department. “Right now it’s ok to NOT be ok.” He stated. “The Maiden Police Department stands ready to support the community and offer anyone any assistance they might need at this time. If there is anything you need please reach out to us.”

Acting Police Chief Tyler Whisenart offers the full support of the Maiden Police Department to those affected by the triple homicide

Leslie Hulbert, President of Malorie’s Place offered condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the victims offering the services of their on-site counsellor for anyone struggling with grief and loss. A prayer “for an end to violence in this world” was also read out at the vigil.

On behalf of the Maiden community, we would also like to thank Sarah Drummond for singing a heartfelt rendition of “Amazing Grace” at the vigil.

Candles were lit by all in attendance in honor of the three victims of this tragic event.
